On the road to level up- Part 2

Are you worried about how to grow as a writer? Are you curious to know how can a writer grow in the digital age? The world of publishing  is evolving at a steady rate. As a writer, it is important to be aware of the latest trends in the industry, the genres that are growing and the changes in the preferences of the reader. The last blog was based on the ways in which writers can upskill themselves. As I tread my journey as a writer, I am also a part of this learning process. This latest article of mine is an extended version of the ways shared last week. Let us explore some more intriguing ways:

  1. Networking: Networking is yet another skill that needs to be developed and utilized to the maximum. It is important for writers to connect with fellow writers, publishers, editors and professionals, taking part in book clubs, events related to book launches and all such platforms that can open the doors to new opportunities.
  2. Explore to learn: Commercial writing requires a writer to learn about content, SEO and its importance and marketing. If you are an aspiring writer, take out time to explore the world of writing, whichever area interests you. It is solely through exploring that one gets knowledge of new avenues. I am open to learning and guess what! It is helping me to know about the expanse of opportunities out there.
  3. Feedback: Yes, it is important or writers to shred the consciousness and share their work, take feedback and be open to constructive criticism. Blogs and platforms where writings can be published online are fruitful tools to gain feedback. We can gain feedback from fellow writers and friends from the writing industry as well. But, here’s the catch! Just seeking of feedback is not enough, until a writer actually works on those points. Improvement begins with acceptance.
  4. How much tech savvy is too much?: We are in the digital age and so writers do need to stay on the edge of new technology. The knowledge of the popular writing tools and software, blogging platforms and ways to use them in their own stride would help writers to create compelling content.
  5. Self-publishing: Self-publishing does not just help you provide your story, your content, a path into the world, but also makes you aware of the ins and outs of the publishing procedure- from cover designing to marketing, you learn it all.
  6. Learning-a long-term investment: And yes, a writer needs to be always open to learning, taking up writing courses that align with their personal goals as well as professional goals. I have started taking up courses that would enrich me with the technical aspects of writing. Trust me, this would empower you as a writer.
  7. Tried reading about writing!: How to get deeper insights into the craft of writing? We have heard and realized that in order to be a successful writer, one needs to be an avid reader. Reading books that give insights about the techniques and the art of writing help a writer immensely.

So friends, upskilling is a continuous process. With the advent of the digital age, the intricacies of writing industry are changing and in order to be successful, writers need to be open to learn, explore and strive to be an expert. When a writer is open to continuous improvement, success will also be an ongoing journey-a journey that builds a writer from within, a journey that continuously motivates a writer. It’s time to shred all inhibitions and dive into the diverse spectrum of opportunities waiting out there. https://www.amazon.in/dp/9395568402?ref=myi_title_dp&fbclid=IwAR2AfJzudyLSbzklPWhR7wjSCCJFtZKxQReNSnojtiLV21Cy6f7g6sS5qSU
